Seems like we should have covered this sooner……
I can not believe it took be this long to get around to sharing the direct selection features in Premiere. This feature is essential when building an extension that interacts with your project!
Before, in all previous videos, I have shared and written scripts based on a bin-based workflow. This isn’t to say that that workflow is bad, or unnecessary any more, but being able to directly return what the user has selected is really nice. We now have that feature as of Premiere 12.1.
Whats really odd, is that in Adobe’s sample code, they down highlight this essential API feature. Instead, they use it in various other functions ,and don’t provide many comments on how it functions. It is also left out of the documentation.
One Warning
Watch the video and enjoy, but I do want to reiterate that as of this recording in February of 2019, the ViewIDs that I get returned from multiple projects can produce errors every once in a while. Keep an eye out for this.
